County Board to join ICLEI – again?
Clallam County is moving toward rejoining ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (a subset of Agenda 21-Sustainable Development). At its worksession on Dec. 2, 2019, Commissioner Mark Ozias (D) suggested joining in order to take advantage of a computer program which would “monitor greenhouse gas inventories” in Clallam County. This despite the fact that in 2011, the County terminated its dues-paying relationship with ICLEI after citizens objected to it because it in effect relinquishes control of our government to a global government – the United Nations. ICLEI, according to its document submitted as part of the agreement for Clallam County, states, “ICLEI is the leading global network of more than 1,750 cities, towns and regions committed to building a sustainable future.”
History roots go deep with Sequim family
“We would like to be left alone and maintain our own property, like our grandfather and great grandfathers did, and find some tranquility and peace,” said Tim Shaw, who is also a spokesperson for his mother, Evelyn Smelling Shaw, now 88 years old. Her husband Richard Shaw passed away in 2017, leaving her and the family with many responsibilities.
The family farm sits on 15 acres, where they raise Black Angus livestock, next to the proposed Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) facility, on South 9th Street.

Citizen criticizes Sequim City Councilor for conflict of interest, calls for recusal

Another property tax for Clallam County – hearing set for Tuesday, Nov. 12th
The Clallam County Board of County Commissioners is pushing for another property tax – this time for a “Conservation Futures Fund”. The tax, which does not require a vote of the public, would create a county ordinance to increase property tax at a rate of two and three-quarter cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Clallam County Courthouse ( 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles) in the commissioners’ boardroom (Room 160), so the taxpayers can weigh in on the additional tax.
Letter to the Editor: Can promises about MAT clinic be kept?
The large ad placed by the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe about their MAT [medically assisted treatment] clinic project contains many promises to the community. But, can these promises be kept, either realistically or even legally?
The “non profit” promise. Thirteen hundred of us, at the Guy Cole Center, heard Ron Allen declare the project as a “for profit” venture. I’m sorry, we can’t unhear that.
