Sequim, WA – As the Sequim City Council prepared to host local the WA State Legislators from the 24th district,  a crowd of approximately 120 supporters of “Save our Sequim” (SOS) lined Sequim Avenue and the City square to make the continual statement, “No MAT”.

The message to the council and the unelected planners and attorney has been continuing for 7 months, by the non-profit group, who now have approximately 3,000 members.

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe has purchased land in the downtown area on South 9th Street in Sequim close to Costco, and are planning to build a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) clinic there.   They have not yet submitted an application for a permit, which should require meetings for the public and a vote of the Council.

As most of the crowd moved into the room for the regular scheduled work session and meeting , they were informed by Mayor Dennis Smith,  that State Representative Steve Tharinger (D) who lives in Jefferson County, would not be attending. State Senator Kevin VanDeWege (D) of Sequim and State Representative Mike Chapman (D) of Port Angeles did attend the work session.
