Sequim, WA – A Clallam County resident for 20 years and Sequim city resident for 7 years, Sarah Kincaid is applying for the open position on the City Council. She previously ran for the position as a write in and received hundreds of write-in votes in the last election.
“I am interested in serving as a City Council member because I see a need for good representation of the people, who live here in Sequim,” Kincaid said. “I’ve spoken to many of the city’s citizens as I doorbelled for the position when I ran as a write-in candidate, and heard many of the concerns on all sides of the issues. I will strive to truly represent the citizens in the direction they want to see the City move,” she stated. “Having lived on the Peninsula for the past 20-plus years, I am knowledgeable about the issues and can bring that actual experience with me to our small town where I have a vested interest, along with so many friends and neighbors in Sequim whom I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know.”
The position has been vacated by Jennifer States, who is moving. States suggested at her last meeting, that she hopes her replacement is a woman. Kincaid is the only woman applying for the position, with six other members on the council.
When doorbelling hundreds of doors in downtown Sequim, she heard about various issues such as: Taxes, transparency of local government, homelessness, and housing availability as some of the issues of the citizens, as they voiced their concerns to her. Kincaid said she sees the position of one as serving as a representative of the city’s residents, and
Three others have applied for the position.
Lowell Rathbun, a board member of Indivisible.org, has applied for the position. He was interviewed by Sequim Gazette Jan 9, 2019 and PDN Jan 10, 2019 while participating in an anti-war rally. He has lived in Sequim for three years (registered to vote here 8/4/2017). He previously lived in Vancouver, Washington and retired Beaverton, Oregon.
Mike (Michael) Pence has lived in Sequim for approximately one year (he registered to vote here on 2/5/2019). He previously lived in Missouri.
Robert Sheckler moved to Sequim from Des Moines, Washington (KING County) and has lived in Sequim for 15 months (He registered to vote here 12/12/2018).
